The government of Canada has said that it would compensate Canadians who suffer injury as a result of taking the much anticipated COVID-19 vaccine. This declaration comes after Health Canada announced that it had approved the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine and is expected to receive an initial shipment of 249,000 doses. It is expected that those doses will be given to frontline workers around the country.
A statement from the Health Minister, patty Hajdu stated, “Canadians can have confidence in the rigour of the vaccine approvals system, however, in the rare event that a person experiences an adverse reaction, this program will help ensure they get the support they need.” Though the chances of someone being sick after receiving the vaccine are very slim, one in one million, the federal government is exercising due diligence in protecting Canadians who may fall sick or be injured. Canada was the second country to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine after the UK.
