Ontario premier slams Trudeau’s carbon tax announcement

The federal government has reignited the carbon tax war with the Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford, after it announced that it would increase the carbon tax each year for up to ten years and in the process spend $15 billion in emission reduction. The premier stated in a press conference, “Folks, this carbon tax gonna be the worst thing you could ever see.”

He further stated, “I’m a strong believer of protecting the environment. But you don’t have to protect the environment on the backs of the hard-working people of this province and of this country at a time that people are just barely holding on by their fingernails.  I was floored when I heard this. As a matter of fact, I couldn’t believe it. I had to double check.” Ford indicated that it was unfair to Canadians to be saddled with such a tax at a time when they are struggling financially from the devastating effects of COVID-19.

Ford made the comparison between the lack of health care funding to the provinces and the taxes. He said, “Green scam or whatever the heck it is’

“God bless the environment, don’t get me wrong. It’s very, very important. But folks at home, you tell me, is your health and well-being of your loved ones and yourself and your job and the economy more important than $15 billion on some green scam or whatever the heck it is?” It is unclear if the premier will continue his fight in court against the tax.
