U.S.-Canada border closure to remain in effect until Jan. 21

Canada will extend the border closure with the United States until January 21, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Friday. The closure will remain in place given the surge of the coronavirus cases in the United States. Trudeau indicated that the decision is in the best interest of Canadians and Americans as both countries battle rising numbers of COVID-19 cases in what will be considered a second wave.  The longest unprotected border in the world was closed to non-essential travels in March at the onset of the pandemic and has remained closed since. It is unlikely that the border closure to non-essential travels will be lifted in months to come.
