Canada’s Environment Minister slams Ontario Premier Doug Ford over Carbon tax statement

Canada’s Environment Minister, Jonathan Wilkinson, has come down hard on Ontario Premier Doug Ford on his opposition to the carbon gas tax by stating that he either does not understand what it means or he is deliberating misleading Ontarians. Premier Ford had been very critical of the federal government plan to introduce the carbon gas tax and had joined other provinces in suing the federal government over the initiative.

The temperature on this contentious issue was lowered when COVID-19 became the focus, but has reemerged following Trudeau’s address to the Paris Climate Accord virtual summit. In that address, Trudeau promised to quadruple the carbon levy as part of the $15 billion initiative.
