(The Political Scientist) The coronavirus infection rate in Canada has reached a new peak with 7,000 plus infections in a single day, the highest since the pandemic. Ontario reported highest number of daily infections amid calls for stricter measures to curb the rising rate as the total number of infections in the country crossed the 500,000 mark. The western province of Alberta saw the highest death toll in a single day since the beginning of the pandemic.
Since Health Canada
approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine two weeks ago, cases have continued to
rise putting pressure and testing the capacity of the health care system. The provincial
and local health officials across the country have continued to encourage mask
wearing and adherence to other public health measures to curb the rise of infections.
In Canada’s largest province, Ontario, officials are considering extending the
lockdown measures put in place for Toronto and Peel Regions. Ontario has asked
school board to prepare for online learning in the new year. Canada has a total
death toll of 13, 916 with the loss of about 115 infected persons daily.
