(The Political Scientist) US President Joe Biden on Thursday signed into law a bill making June 19 a federal holiday. This is the day that has been widely recognized as the day slavery ended. Since this holiday falls on Saturday this year, it will be celebrated on Friday. This is the first federal holiday since Ronald Reagan signed into law Martin Luther King Jr. in 1983 holiday that is now widely celebrated in America. It is expected that states will follow suit in declaring it a public holiday in the coming years.
